Michigan Technological University is a public research university that operates form Houghton, Michigan – the Upper Peninsula. In 1885 Michigan Mining School was established that initially had a mission of training mining engineers to back up local copper industry as its base. Nowadays, Michigan Tech is no longer a polytechnic school turned liberal arts college. Instead, it has evolved into a science and technology-focused university that specializes in engineering, natural and physical sciences, technology, forestry and environmental science.
With around 7,000 students, Michigan Tech maintains a student-faculty ratio of 16:1 which commits to putting the students first by directing its focus on undergraduate education. The campus is situated on 100 acres of land with 5,000 acres of forest which are located in the Keweenaw Waterway and Portage Lake. Students get the opportunity to use the advanced research facilities and also always have a chance to enjoy themselves in the natural world by taking part in outdoor recreational activities like skiing, mountain biking.
